During the Fall break I was stuck here on ONU's campus because I am a Resident Assistant. If you know what an RA does then you know that one is usually "on call" each day. We rotate who that is via a calendar and shifts. When there is a break that doesn't require everybody to leave campus there is always one RA who stays behind each day of the break to be on call. And guess who got the short straw, me. It's not all that bad because I took this shift so I could go home earlier on another break. But because I had all this time on my hands to be in my hall I decided to work on a small project I had gotten in the mail. The Lego Bonsai Tree.

Cherry Blossom Form |
This was a set I've wanted for some time now. The new complex and organic sets from the Ideas collection are fascinating to me. Being able to replicate twisted wood in stiff square bricks is a wonder in it's own. That, and the fact that I have already killed one bonsai tree in college and wanted one that won't die on me.
The build took me about 3 hours to do not counting interruptions. It was fin and engaging seeing how each piece made the whole look more and more like a tree. My favorite part was when the instructions had me dump 200 small circles of "pebbles" into the box to fill the base. The end result came out as this beautiful curved art piece with two different forms. One is the base green form while the other is the cherry blossom variant. Each blossom is actually a pink Lego frog!
I can say with confidence that this is my favorite set I've gotten in recent years.
I love Legos, but I hate how expensive they can be. My favorite Legos to build are ones from my favorite movies such as Batman, Star Wars and Harry Potter. Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI love this I have been seeing these everywhere and they are so cool! I hope to get the friends café one they have began making. I am a huge friends fan!
ReplyDeleteMy site is bugging out but I actually built that café set with a friend! It was very cool- Michael Gallagher
DeleteI had to stay at ONU for the whole fall break as well. It can get a bit creepy not having the annoying noises above you. For once I missed the loud banging that made me feel like the roof was going to come down on top of me. It is great that you had something relaxing to do. I played with Legos a lot when I was younger. Now they are collecting dust in a storage closet. I wish my family would donate them somewhere so other kids can enjoy them.
